What to know before applying for a study permit in Canada in 2022?

These Canadian Ph.D. grants are an option for international students who desire to pursue their doctoral studies abroad on financial aid.

Do you intend to attend college in the Great White North? As part of your preparation, you'll probably need a study permit for Canada. Here is the most recent information on what you should know before organizing your study abroad trip in 2022.

What is a study permit for Canada?

Foreign nationals can study at designated learning institutions (DLIs) in Canada with the help of the Canada study permit. To study in the nation, the majority of foreign nationals will require this document.

You cannot enter Canada without a visa if you have a study permit. You might also require electronic travel permission or a visitor visa (eTA).

The time it takes to process a study permit after it has been authorized varies depending on the nation, so be sure to check the application processing times for an estimate. Be aware that you can be asked for biometric information while applying. The time required for you to provide biometric data is not included in this processing time.

150 Canadian dollars are required to obtain a study permit.

Who may apply?

If any of the following conditions are met, you may study in Canada

  • Your DLI must be on the list of DLIs with an authorized COVID-19 preparedness plan if you are an international student coming from outside of Canada to attend school.
  • Show that you have the funds to cover your tuition, living expenses for you and any family members traveling to Canada, and other necessary costs.
  • Return transportation for you and any family members traveling to Canada with you.
  • Comply with the law, maintain a clean record, and obtain a police certificate (if required).
  • Have a medical examination and are in good health (if required).
  • Make it clear to the officer that after your study permission expires, you'll leave Canada.
You can come to Canada to study for six months or less without a study permit if you meet the requirements of a fully immunized traveler for short-term studies. However, there are advantages to obtaining study permission even if you don't require one.

If you are not a fully immunized traveler, you must get a Canada study permit and enroll in a DLI with a COVID-19 preparation plan that has been authorized by the province or territory where it is located.

When processing your application, they don't inquire about or consider your COVID-19 vaccination status. Upon your arrival in Canada, a border services officer will decide if you meet the requirements to enter the country as a fully vaccinated traveler.
